As part of our mission to educate the whole person, ICS offers students the opportunity to enrich their classroom education through participation in a variety of school sponsored clubs and activities. ICS also hosts annual events and masses that strengthen our relationship with Christ and the Church as well as with our teachers and peers.
Grandparent's Mass: Each year, our students celebrate a special mass dedicated to a group of people whom support, guide, and mentor them throughout their lives: their Grandparents. Our ICS students invite all grandparents to take part in a sacred blessing and celebratory acknowledgement of all they do. Following Mass, we welcome the children and their families back to the gym for a reception.
Blue Mass: ICS hosts an annual “Blue Mass” to honor the men and women of law enforcement that keep our school and community safe each day. The color blue relates to the blue-colored uniforms predominantly used by these services. The Mass is attended by all students and staff, as well as 100+ members of law enforcement. May God bless and protect each of them!
First Holy Communion: First Communion is considered one of the holiest and most important occasions in a Roman Catholic's life. The communicant receives the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. By continuing to receive Holy Communion for the rest of their lives, Catholics become one with Christ and believe they will share in His eternal life.
Children celebrate First Holy Communion after a two-year preparation in 1st and 2nd grade religious education. At ICS, receiving this sacrament is a joy for all involved, and our students’ new spiritual journeys are represented in a beautiful ceremony.
Confirmation: Confirmation empowers us through the gift of the Spirit to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ and courageous witnesses to the Good News of salvation. Confirmation is for the baptized person, and it is administered with the anointing of oil, the laying on of hands, and the words, “Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit” (CCC, 1300). During Confirmation, God the Holy Spirit comes upon the person, accompanied by God the Father and God the Son.
This sacrament is celebrated each Spring for ICS’s seventh grade class. The ceremony takes place at Mass and is celebrated by the Bishop of the Diocese. Each individual to be confirmed works with their chosen sponsor throughout the year to learn more about their own faith life. As one of three sacraments of Christian initiation, students are called to go deeper and deeper into our faith so as to grow in our relationship with Christ and the Church. Confirmation strengthens, deepens, increases and matures baptismal grace in the very depths of a person’s soul.
Stations of the Cross: Each year, the eighth grade class of Immaculate Conception School presents the Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. Using meditations and song, the students retrace Jesus’ final footsteps on the path to His crucifixion. This rendition takes place in Immaculate Conception Church and all are invited.
Our students learn the importance of this sacred event by creating their own realistic costumes and props and then solemnly performing their presentation for the student body. The Living Stations offer our students, families, and parishioners an opportunity to walk in Jesus’ path and witness the vastness of His sacrifice in real time. This educational and emotional event is a meaningful and memorable experience for all involved.
May Procession: May Devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary refers to special Marian devotions held in the Catholic Church during the month of May, honoring the Virgin Mary as our queen and mother. The ICS Second and Eighth Grades participate in the Crowning Procession by crowning Mary with flowers and singing the Magnificat at a special Mass attended by the entire school community.
ICS Got Talent: At ICS, our students have numerous talents that can’t wait to be shown off! ICS Got Talent is a fantastic event where our children can reveal hidden skills and celebrate their gifts with each other. Some play the piano, perform a dance routine, sing, act, etc. Even our teachers can get in on the action and perform! This experience brings our ICS community together and allows every student, faculty, and staff member to shine.
Field Day: Field Day is a long-standing tradition at ICS that incorporates physical fitness, student comradery, healthy competition, and a day out in the fresh air! Teachers and volunteers work together to plan a fun, safe event for all students to enjoy. Near the end of the school year, students are taken to Immaculata’s turf field to compete in a variety of team-building exercises, relays, and obstacle courses. Students, faculty, and staff look forward to Field Day each year as a beloved event that is enjoyed by all.
