The ICS Music Curriculum includes weekly classroom music instruction for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. Grades PreK - 3 focus on “fun”damentals which includes singing, movement and rhythm instruments. Grades 4-6 are introduced to Music Theory and Grades 7 and 8 experience an introduction to Music History. All Grades prepare for Liturgy and other special events throughout the year during Music Class.
Weekly Instrumental instruction and band rehearsal is provided for those children in Grades 4-8 wishing to participate in our ICS Band Program. There are also opportunities to join Jazz Band, and participate in small instrumental ensembles.
Grades 5-8
The ICS Chorus is open to all students in Grades 5-8. Weekly practices take place before school. The Chorus performs at both the Christmass and Spring Vocal Concerts.
Grades 7 and 8
The Folk Group welcomes instrumentalists in Grades 7 and 8 who are interested in playing at all our all-school Liturgies throughout the year.
Choral members of the Folk Group cantor for the First Friday school liturgies and for special occasions throughout the school year. Choral members only attend the Thursday Folk Group practices. Instrumentalists must be current Band Members. Singers must be current ICS Chorus Members.
Grades 6-8
The Forensics Club is open to all students in Grades 6-8. From September through December, the students work on preparing and memorizing a Christmas-themed group presentation. The Forensics Team performs their presentation the week before Christmas vacation as part of our school Christmas activities. For the second semester, students choose, prepare, and memorize a literary selection that they perform individually in competition at the ICS Forensics Assembly in the spring.
